Former Midland College standout signs with Spurs

The San Antonio Spurs have signed former Midland College Chap Jonathan Simmons to a two-year deal at the veteran's minimum (first year guaranteed, Spurs hold option for second year).

Simmons, a 6-5 guard from Houston, played for the Chaps and head coach Ross Hodge in 2009-10, having played his freshman year at Paris Junior College for Hodge.

In the 2009-10 season, Simmons helped lead MC to a 30-3 overall record, including winning their first 26 games of the season that year.  Two of the three losses that season came at the hands of Howard College, including a thrilling game in the 2010 NJCAA Region V Championship game (66-76). Howard College won the 2010 National Championship.  That season, Simmons averaged 13.1 points and 3.1 rebounds, while shooting 53 percent from the floor in 32 games.

Following his one season at Midland College, Simmons transferred to the University of Houston where he played one season.  He declared for the NBA draft in 2012 and went undrafted.  Simmons has played three seasons in the NBA Developmental League for the Austin Spurs.
