WC volleyball invited to national tournament
The Weatherford College volleyball team is returning to the national tournament for a second straight year.
The National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) released its 2024 Division I National Volleyball Tournament bracket on Wednesday, and WC received an at-large bid as the nine seed. The 16-team tournament will be played Nov. 20-23 at Austin Peay State University in Clarksville, Tennessee.
The Coyotes (29-7) will begin the tournament against eight seed Utah State University Eastern at 4 p.m. CST on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in APSU's Winfield Dunn Center, one of the largest volleyball-only facilities among NCAA Division I programs.
Two-time defending national champion Florida Southwestern State College (21-1) is the No. 1 seed.
Other Texas teams in the tournament include four seed Blinn College (38-2), seven seed Odessa College (28-8), 11 seed Navarro College (21-11) and 12 seed Trinity Valley Community College (23-14).
The Coyotes are ranked No. 5 in the most recent NJCAA Division I rankings. Weatherford is fourth in the nation in assists (1,639), fifth in kills (1,746), eighth in points per set (17.3), eighth in digs (2,237), ninth in service aces (285) and 12th in hitting percentage (.239).
WC won its third straight Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference title this year in only its third year of volleyball competition.
