Encalada, Smith claim NTJCAC Baseball Player of the Week honors
Emir Encalada of Ranger College and Marcus Smith of McLennan Community College were selected the Northern Texas Junior College Athletic Conference's Baseball Players of the Week.
A sophomore right-hander from Laredo, Texas, Encalada was the NTJCAC Pitcher of the Week after hurling a gem against Wharton. Overall, he allowed just five baserunners via four hits and a walk in seven innings on the bump. En route to leading Ranger to a win, he struck out 12 batters.
A freshman infielder from Harlem, New York, Smith was the NTJCAC Position Player of the Week. He finished week by batting .667. He appeared in three games; going 1-for-2 with an RBI in 10-9 loss to State College of Florida; 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI in 5-3 win over Chattahoochee Valley; and 2-for-4 in a 6-4 loss to Dyersburg State.
