Olalekan, Homelius pocket WJCAC Basketball Players of the Week honors
Zainab Olalekan of Clarendon College and Isak Homelius of Western Texas College have been selected the Basketball Players of the Week in the Western Junior College Athletic Conference.
A 6-1 sophomore forward from Nigeria, Olalekan is the WJCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week. She averaged 21.5 points and 14 rebounds per game in leading the way for a 2-0 week for Clarendon College. Led by Olalekan, Clarendon claimed a 77-63 at Howard College and 83-62 against Odessa College. Olalekan's scoring came on an impressive 64.5% from the field. Overall, she hit 20 of her 31 attempts from the field while grabbing 28 rebounds, 2 steals and a blocked shot.
A 6-5 freshman guard from Huskvarna, Sweden, Homelius is the WJCAC Men's Basketball Player of the Week. He led the Westerners to a 89-74 win over No. 5 Midland College, scoring 32 points in the win. In his two games, he went 12-for-30 from the field, including hitting 9 three-pointers, and averaged 24 points per outing. He also contributed 7 assists, a steal and 7 rebounds.
