The Western Junior College Athletic Conference has started a Male and Female Student Trainer Award. Congratulations to the two student-trainers who have been honored for 2016-17.
Scott Lange of Odessa College is the Male Student Trainer of the Year for the WJCAC. Lange has been a member of the Odessa College training staff for two years. He began his studies at OC in the Fall of 2016 after serving 10 years as an Army Health Care Specialist in Germany and Japan. In addition to his training duties, he volunteers with community projects such as Keep Odessa Beautiful, Food2Kids, the Permian Basin Fair, plus UIL events held at Odessa College.
Samantha Pena of South Plains College is the Female Student Trainer of the Year for the WJCAC. Pena has worked with the SPC training staff since 2014. She was the SPC Athletic Trainer of the Year in 2014-15 and received the Kathleen Truelock Memorial Award for Academic Excellence in 2016. She also received the Physical Education Award in 2016, and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society in 2015 when she was named to the Dean's Honor Roll.
